Outstanding analysis here. The miracle of ‘Get Out’ is that it functions not only as a straightforward horror film but uses cultural and historical cues to build an existential-horror in the audience; it represents some of the best uses of symbolism I’ve seen in the genre. When I see trailers for films like ‘The Blind Side,’ or ‘The Upside’ all they do is reinforce the notion that blacks are only used to accessorize white identity — or that they cease to be people outside of one or two ‘defining characteristics.’
